NSW win the title of champion league t20

New South Wales were crowned the inaugural Champions League T20 winners after they snapped Trinidad & Tobago's fairytale campaign with a 41-run victory in a high-voltage summit clash on Friday. it was a battle between Caribbean flair and Australian professionalism and in the end; NSW had the last laugh with Brett Lee as their star performer.
Put into bat, NSW fumbled and faltered in their innings to slump to 83 for six in the 12th over before finding a messiah in Lee, whose whirlwind 48 off 31 balls, along with Steven Smith's 33, guided them to 159 for 9. Trinidad & Tobago's chase never gathered momentum and Kieron Pollard's (26 off 15 balls) last ditch attempt was not enough as the Caribbean side folded for 118 in 15.5 overs.
Earlier, New South Wales discovered a batting hero in Brett Lee whose stunning 48, along with Steven Smith's 33, took the Australians past the 150-mark after they had slumped to 83 for six inside 12 overs.

Put into bat, NSW never really got going with Ravi Rampaul (3/20) and Dwayne Bravo (2/27) polishing the top order before some poor shot selections did the middle order in.

Down the order, Steven Smith, however, refused to throw in the towel and Lee then came up with a 31-ball blitzkrieg, studded with four fours and five sixes, before falling in the last ball of the innings.
Dave Mohammad removed Ben Rohrer (16) with his first delivery and Rampaul returned to disturb Daniel Smith's timbers in the next over before Lee joined Smith in the middle to steady the ship.
Even after Smith returned, there was no containing Lee who swung his bat to good effect to help the side cross the 150-mark that had looked a distant dream at one stage.

T&T to face NSW Blues in CL T20 final

Dwayne Bravo struck form with a bludgeoning 34-ball 58 as Trinidad and Tobago stretched their unbeaten run to the final of the Champions League t20, thrashing Cape Cobras by seven wickets in the blood-and-guts second semi-final on Thursday.
Chasing a stiff 176 to set up final with NSW Blues, Bravo and skipper Daren Ganga (44) produced a match-winning unbeaten 93-run stand for the fourth wicket and overhauled the target with four balls to spare at Rajiv Gandhi stadium.

Riding on fantastic knocks of JP Duminy (62 not out) and Herschelle Gibbs (42), Cape Cobras put up a competitive 175 for five in 20 overs, after opting to bat.
The match was evenly balanced as the Caribbean had lost three wickets at the half-way mark but Bravo and Ganga batted fearlessly and took the match away from the South Africans, who were let down by some poor fielding.

The Caribbean side made a blazing start to their chase as William Perkins (20) and drian Barath (29) rattled up 53 in the first five overs.
Justin Ontong got rid of Simmons in the first ball of his spell when he had him caught by Kleinveldt at mid-wicket as the Caribbean sides reach 85 at half-way mark.
Skipper Daren and Bravo then erected that magnificent partnership to steer their side to yet another win.
Earlier, Duminy showed patience when his partners were changing quickly from the other end and cut loose towards the end to shape the innings of his side.
The 40-ball knock of the left-hander was adorned with four fours and three sixes.
Gibbs, struggling for runs, struck form when it mattered most as he smashed his way to 27-ball 42, which provided the impetus to the South African innings in the first half.

IPL champion Deccan out from Champions League

IPL-2 Champions Deccan Chargers crashed out of the Champions League t20 after suffering a narrow three-run defeat against Trinidad and Tobago in their do-or-die Group a match on Wednesday. Chasing 150 to win, the hosts could manage just 146/9 in their stipulated 20 overs. The hosts required eight runs off the last over but they had no recognized batsman at the crease and the tail-enders could fetch only four runs.
The victory of the Caribbean side also cleared the entry of Somerset into the quarter-final league from group A.

Skipper Adam Glichrist (51), Y Venugopal Rao (30) and Rohit Sharma (25) batted well for their short knocks but that proved insufficient to pull through their side.
Opting to field, hosts did well to restrict Trinidad and Tobago to 149/7. William Perkins top scored for the Caribbean side with his 38 (32 ball, 6X4) at the top and Kieron Polard played a blazing 31 off 14 balls down the order.

Fidel Edwards, who was barred from bowling in the last match for firing two beamers, made amends by taking three wickets for Deccan Chargers. Dwayne Bravo (3/24) was the most successful bowler for Trinidad & Tobago, who entered the next stage with clean slate.

Qualification in mind, Gilchrist began on an explosive note, smashing a six over third man off Ravi Rampaul's in the first legal ball of the innings. The hosts were in the drivers' seat at that time but both Gilchrist and Rohit departed in a gap of three balls, leaving his side reeling at 86/5.

Eagles thrash Sussex in Super over

Diamond Eagles defeated Sussex Sharks in a pulsating Super Over contest and joined New South Wales from Group B in the Super Eight Stage of the Champions League t20 on Tuesday. Riding on a six from Rilee Rossouw, Eagles scored nine runs in their Super Over and then Cornelius de Villiers bagged back-to-back wickets to seal the nail-biting victory for the South African side.
De Villers went through the defence of both Dwayne Smith and Rory Hamilton-Brown in the first two deliveries of the Super Over to ensure the win and also reserved for his side a berth in the next league stage of the USD six million events.
Earlier, pace duo of de Villiers and Dillion du Preez scalped two wickets each as Diamond Eagles restricted Sussex Sharks to a modest 119/7.
Luke Wright (19 off 12 balls) played a cameo upfront, while Edmund Joyce (21) and Joe Gatting (25) contributed in the middle to set the run-a-ball target on a tricky Ferozeshah Kotla wicket.
Rossouw was particularly severe on James Kirtley and Yasir Arafat as he treated both the bowlers with disdain. He first clobbered Kirltey for a huge hit over mid-wicket boundary and then followed it up with a four and a six off Arafat.

Sussex and Eagles ready for last fight

United in their difficulty and their back against the wall, Sussex Sharks and Diamond Eagles will hurl themselves at each other's throat for a win that would prise open the Super Eight door for them in the Champions League T20 here on Tuesday. Both throughly outplayed in their respective Group B openers against a markedly superior New South Wales, it's fairly an uncomlpicated situation where the winners would breeze into Super Eight. The Eagles, under Boeta Dippenaar, would have to pull up their socks if they are to extend their stay in the high-profile tournament. Dippenaar was critical of the Ferozeshah Kotla track's uneven bounce but the fact is, it remains same for all the sides and there would be no place for similar excuse tomorrow.
Not that Sussex has done any better and losing regular captain Michael Yardy due to stomach cramps did not help their cause against NSW yesterday. The lack of penetration in their bowling unit has been the bane of the English side and even though they restricted NSW to 130, they could claim just two wickets, which is not a flattering statement on their bowlers, including Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla and Pakistani pacer Yasir Arafat.
By and large, the battle between the desperate minnows promises to be an even fight and whoever raises their game tomorrow will have the last laugh.
